oddinary released last week but i need a test review here so.. heres my review of stray kids' new ep, oddinary!
venom: when the unveil for venom was released i was really, really hyped for it! i love hip hop/rap-heavy tracks like those, but once it released i guess it felt kind of underwhelming, at least it did at first listen. i like the rap bits, but some of the vocal parts really dont fit the song in my opinion. the chorus is still great though! overall, its not my favourite track but i definitely dont hate it.
maniac: this one was the biggest surprise for me, when i listened to the trailer i HATED IT i thought it would be the worst track on the album, i didnt like christmas evel either so i was assuming it would be bad like that. but once it released i reluctantly listened to it, expecting the worst, and got really surprised! i liked the song a lot, it sounds good and is a nice break from the noise music theyve been doing recently. of course it's not levanter, i dont like it as much as some of their other title tracks but it's definitely one of their best title tracks yet. i love jisungs part in the second verse especially, but when don't i love jisungs parts lol. the choreo is lovely and really visually appealing. the music video is beautiful and really interesting. the only aspect of the video that i dont like as much is the styling, but thats okay.
charmer: oh, charmer... after hearing jisungs rap in the mashup video, i had such high hopes, and maybe that was my biggest mistake.. while i love the track, it didnt hold up to my expectations at first. it was probably the instrumental, because its a lot more different than the mashup video. on its own its a great song and a week later i really think i like it. but it was a big dissapointment at first which definitely tainted my opinion on the track for a while. the second verse is probably my favourite part of the song, i love jisungs "chilling chilling yeah every day im chilling" part SO MUCH the chorus and ending is also lovely. felix's pre chorus in the second verse really caught me off guard and i also think its one of my favourite parts.
freeze: finally we'll get a positive review lol since i heard the unveil i knew i'd like it, it wasnt my favourite and it definitely didnt have the effect charmer and venom had on me but that was for the better. once i heard the full song, i really really liked it! edm/dubstep is not something i normally enjoy but they really really went off with this track lol, the chorus is my favourite of course, hyunjins ddaeng is adorable
lonely st: now THIS TRACK... i had low expectations of course because u cant make a sad song that beats levanter.. or so i thought!! lonely st and levanter have such different vibes but they both are so amazing, and lonely st remains my favourite song on the album since i first listened to it!!! it's one of their best tracks in my opinion, just in their entire discography. changbins vocals (?) and felixs part at the beginning are beautiful. they always have such unique emotional songs and i think thats because of all of their unique voices, which i love so much.
waiting for us: waiting for us!! i really liked this song, i dont think its a favourite but its still lovely, any track starring (?) seungin is always amazing
muddy water: agh... muddy water really isnt my thing, which is too bad since its a unit track w my bias line i dont hate it, it feels like a song thatd be in hypmic, but i definitely dont like it. the jazz/lofi feel isnt my thing.
closing thoughts: oddinary is a great album (as all of skz's albums are) and it really has some gems. i like how skz is taking a break from noise music and trying out different genres they havent explored as much. and despite all this it still feels like a skz song. im excited to see what else they release in the future!!
